Netflix latest period drama was created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Grey’s Anatomy show runner Shonda Rhimes. This dream team created an inclusive, sex-positive period series also boasting stunning costumes and props.

‘Bridgerton’ Put A Modern Spin To Regency Fashion For The Series' Stunning Costumes

As protagonists Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) fall for one another in the cut-throat marriage market of 1800s London, the audience is treated to delightful visuals and exquisite outfits.

In a video interview released by Netflix, Dynevor revealed that her character dons 104 different dresses throughout the eight episodes.

“Our costume department is incredible,” the actress said.

“It’s Regency with a twist, everything is just so bold and it’s beautiful,” she added.

“This interpretation of 1813 needed to be an overview of how we can add modern elements to it,” Mirojnick explained.

“We’ve made them more luxurious and more sumptuous, and we’ve introduced a modern color palette but really tried to stick to the basic foundations of the 1813 silhouette,” she added.

Queen Charlotte’s Gowns Speak Volumes About The Society Of The Time

Different color palettes and styles applied to different characters, as Claudia James, who plays Daphne’s sister Eloise, noted.

“The [Bridgerton] family have quite a muted, pastel palette,” she said.

“Which is lovely, juxtaposed without beautiful Featheringtons and all their bright colors,” she continued.

However, there is one character whose outfits were completely out of the box. Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel, sported several bold looks in the first season.

"We want it to be a period drama like you’ve never seen before,” Rosheuvel said.

“The kind of remit for the queen was that she didn’t have any continuity,” Rosheuvel explained.

This allowed the character to wear different statement outfits whenever she would appear on screen. Not only did her ostentatious outfits say something about Charlotte, but they also were representative of the aristocracy as a whole.

“Every single shot that you see her in, she is in something different,” the actress said.

“So that drove a kind of character choice as well about the gaudiness of the society,” she added.
